Skincare Guide While on Accutane: best Products to use

Facial skin care:

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser:

Cetaphil, CeraVe, Aveeno oat gel, Neutrogena hydroboost, Vanicream gentle cleansers

Avoid cleansers with benzoyl peroxide and/or AHAs/BHAs (glycolic acid, salicylic acid) in order to minimize irritation.

Apply ceramide-based moisturizers:

Cetaphil moisturizing facial lotion with HA, Cetaphil moisturizing cream, Aveeno oat gel moisturizer, La roche posay toleraine moisturizer

Always wear sunscreen:

Elta MD UV Daily, Elta MD UV clear, Supergoop unseen sunscreen

Lips:

Make sure to carry Vaseline or Aquaphor ointment to apply throughout the day.  Some patients also like lip balms that have hydrocortisone in them, such as Dr. Dan's Cortibalm.  

Body skin care:

Use a gentle soaps in the shower: Dove unscented soap, Cetaphil restoraderm body wash, Avene cleansing oil.

Take luke warm showers <15 minutes. 

When you get out of the shower, pat dry, and apply a thick moisturizing cream all over.  Examples of creams we recommend are Cetaphil moisturizing cream and Cerave moisturizing cream.  

When going outside, apply a good sunscreen of at least SPF 30+. 

Tips for dry nose/eyes:

Apply a thin layer of aquaphor or vaseline to skin just inside the nose.

Sleep with a humidifier close to your bed.

Use a nasal saline spray throughout the day.

Use lubricating eye drops throughout the day.
